Ingredients for the Filling:

3 small apples, peeled and sliced

1 tablespoon of butter

4 tablespoons of golden syrup or maple syrup

1 teaspoon of cinnamon

Ingredients for the Cake:

250 grams of softened butter

1 cup of caster sugar

2 teaspoons of vanilla extract

3 eggs

2 cups of self-raising flour, sifted

2/3 cup of milk

Method:

1. Prepare the Filling:

• Melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat.
• Add the sliced apples and cook until they begin to soften.
• Stir in the golden syrup and continue cooking for 4 more minutes, tossing the apples occasionally to prevent sticking.
• Sprinkle the cinnamon over the apples, mix well, and then arrange them at the bottom of your Medium Round Flat Stacks Ovenware.

2. Make the Cake Batter:

• In a separate bowl, use a hand mixer to beat the softened butter, caster sugar, and vanilla extract until the mixture is pale and fluffy.
• Beat in the eggs one at a time, ensuring each is well combined before adding the next.
• Gently fold in half of the sifted flour and half of the milk with a spatula. Repeat with the remaining flour and milk until just combined.

3. Baking:

• Pour the cake batter over the apple layer in the dish, smoothing the top with a spatula.
• Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C (356°F) for 45-50 minutes, or until a skewer inserted into the centre of the cake comes out clean.
